Vartalac near Komiža appears on the dog beach list of the Prijatelji životinja association and is one of the few officially listed dog beaches on Vis. It lies right by Komiža, on a rocky shore with deep and exceptionally clean water — Vis is the most remote inhabited island in this part of the Adriatic and the sea shows it. Because the entry into the sea is deep, the beach suits dogs that swim well. There is little shade, so come in the morning or towards evening. Vis is reached by ferry from Split; check the dog transport rules with the operator.
