Vela plaža in Baška stretches for almost two kilometres, and a special section of it is open to dogs, as confirmed by the Kvarner Tourist Board’s list of dog beaches. That is a convenient combination for dog owners: the dog section has the full infrastructure of a long town beach behind it — showers, food and drink, and car parks. The surface is fine shingle and the entry into the sea is gentle, which suits dogs still learning to swim. There is almost no shade on the beach, so bring a parasol and water, and avoid the midday hours in summer.
