The Barone and St John (sv. Ivan) fortresses above Šibenik’s old town were built in 1646 to defend against the Ottomans; today they offer views over the town and bay and an augmented-reality tour. Under the operator’s rules, dogs may enter the fortresses accompanied by their owner and must stay on a leash throughout; the exception is the Barone bistro, where dogs are not allowed. The same applies at St Michael’s (sv. Mihovil) fortress. Regular hours are daily 9:00–17:00, and the combined ticket for Barone and St John is available from March to November. In autumn the climb up steps and stone ramparts is much kinder to a dog than in the summer heat. Barone has a small free car park.
