Alongside the coastal paths, the Crikvenica Riviera Tourist Board recommends the Vinodol hinterland to visitors with dogs: walks around Lake Tribalj and through the surrounding forest, less than half an hour’s drive from the coast. The lake is man-made, ringed by mixed woodland and field tracks, and in summer it is considerably cooler and quieter here than by the sea. For a dog this is a good choice during heatwaves, when the asphalt along the coast is too hot for paws. The loop around the lake is easy, while the freshwater access points are shallow and muddy — rinse your dog after a swim.
