Bled Castle’s code of conduct is unambiguous about dogs: pets are welcome on the castle’s outdoor areas as long as they are leashed, but you may not take animals into the castle’s indoor spaces. That means you can enjoy one of the finest views of the lake and the island with your dog on the courtyard, the terraces and in the castle park, while the museum collections, the printing works and the chapel stay off limits. The climb up is steep and hot in summer, so bring water; there is some shade below the castle, but the courtyard offers little room to retreat at peak times. Early morning or just before closing is the pleasantest.
