Slovenia’s largest brackish wetland lies right next to Koper and is open to visitors free of charge. Under the reserve’s rules, visiting with a dog is allowed, but the dog must be on a short leash at all times. A circular educational trail runs along the lagoon past observation hides and up to a viewing tower, reached by a wide spiral ramp that also suits four-legged visitors. This is an area for quiet nature watching — birds are most numerous in the morning, so keep your dog close and avoid making noise.
