Velika planina, one of Europe’s largest high-mountain plateaus with its herdsmen’s settlement, is reached by cable car from the Kamniška Bistrica valley. Under the rules of Velika planina d.o.o., dogs may ride the cable car for a surcharge; the dog must be healthy, clean and on a leash at all times. A muzzle is recommended and can be made mandatory when there are several dogs in the cabin, at busy times or at staff discretion — you can borrow one at the ticket office. Smaller dogs may also ride the chairlift, held on your lap, at the owner’s own risk. Leashes are mandatory everywhere on Velika planina; keep your dog away from grazing cattle and follow the herdsmen’s instructions.
